Project
Merck needed an automation solution for the suspended solution packing clean room. Their vertical door was offering low performance (technical problems with regard to opening and insufficient watertight sealing to comply with the current clean room legislation).

Introductory propositions
The solution supplied by Manusa had to allow the entry of people as well as forklifts, optimising the time that the door remained opened. The doors had to be totally custom-made, since the opening already existed and neither height nor width could be modified. Although the doors had to be automatic, the fact that the door was situated in one of the general corridors with lots of traffic meant that the position level of the detection systems had to be very precise so that the doors would not open unnecessarily.
Manusa solution
Manusa designed, produced and installed 12 hermetic doors to replace all the rapid doors of the packing and production areas. The new hermetic doors, besides being functional, were designed integrated with the space where they had to be installed, with the identifying colour of each specific area... The leaves had vision panels to guarantee a perfect control of the interior and of the exterior of the room when the door is closed. They installed manual push-buttons of manual opening to avoid the opening of the door if not needed and thus avoiding any automatic openings provoked by the corridor traffic. To improve safety of the opening and closure of the door and ensure that the door remains open when the forklift trucks have to enter or exit the room, two photocells barriers were used.
