Hermetic doors for the new multi-purpose building at Granollers Hospital

Sanitary

The new multi-purpose building at Granollers Hospital, designed by the prestigious architectural practice Llongueras Clotet Arquitectes + Sulkin Marchissio, was named a finalist in the A+ by Daikin Awards in the Best Healthcare Architecture Project category. The design stands out for its careful integration into the urban fabric and the natural landscape of the Vallès region, as well as for a layout centred around three large courtyards that favours natural light and user comfort. Designed to improve healthcare provision, the building combines functionality with sensitivity to the landscape in a high-quality architectural solution.

At Manusa, we have contributed to this project by installing automatic hermetic glazed sliding doors in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). This solution has been specifically designed for hospital environments, where visibility, safety and airtightness are essential factors. The entire system is organised according to a modular, industrialised approach that optimises healthcare staff’s movement without compromising patients’ privacy and well-being.

Visibility and privacy in a single access point

Clear View hermetic glass doors were fitted to the various ICU cubicles, allowing for a clear view of the interior of the rooms while maintaining the necessary privacy in this type of space.

To achieve this dual function – visibility and privacy – the leaves feature a vinyl coating that combines a transparent upper section with an opaque lower section. This allows healthcare staff to observe the interior of each cubicle without having to enter the room repeatedly, thereby reducing interruptions and helping patients to rest.

Each door features the unit’s identification number in large print, making it easy to locate the storage units quickly and organise tasks.

Airtightness is key for critical environments

A key feature of automatic hermetic doors is the perimeter seal, which guarantees the highest established airtightness rating (standards UNE 85170:2016 and UNE-EN 121207:2017). This feature is essential in spaces such as ICUs, which require very strict control of environmental and hygiene conditions to ensure patients’ full recovery.

In addition to these features, there are other benefits to bear in mind:

  • An emergency release system to open the door manually in the event of a power cut.
  • Maintenance of pressure, temperature and humidity conditions in each room.
  • Contribution to hygiene control in areas with critically ill patients.
  • Clear visibility for continuous patient monitoring.
  • Integration of an obstacle detection system that reopens the door when an obstacle is detected.

The central layout of the healthcare staff’s workstations, combined with the transparency of the doors, provides a clear overview of the various treatment cubicles, facilitating faster and more efficient care.

Through this project, Manusa continues to help create safer and more functional hospital environments, providing valuable solutions to the most demanding challenges.
