Accessibility and safety with the new telescopic sliding door for residential buildings

Access to a residential building is much more than just an entry point: it is a key element in the daily experience of the people who live there. The residents' association of the Río Caudal building, located in Oviedo, Asturias, raised the need to completely renovate the access to the residential building to modernise it, improve people's daily lives and, as a result, improve energy efficiency.
As a solution, Manusa has replaced the old door with an automatic telescopic sliding door that opens sideways, an intervention that has meant a complete transformation in terms of accessibility, comfort and design.
Far from being merely an aesthetic improvement, this renovation redefines the way people enter, exit and use the building daily. Automated access removes barriers, facilitates entry and exit, improves energy efficiency and adds both functional and architectural value.
Complete transformation thanks to the new telescopic sliding door
The entrance to the Río Caudal building had become completely obsolete. The manual doors, in addition to taking up useful space for people to pass through, are narrower, making them inconvenient for people with reduced mobility or residents carrying shopping bags, suitcases or other items that make it difficult to open them by hand.
The entrance design was limited by space, but with the alterations proposed by Manusa, more space has been gained, allowing for a wider, more accessible entrance. The model chosen, the automatic telescopic sliding door with side opening, is one of the most suitable solutions for expanding or maximising access where greater free passage width is required. Specifically, the telescopic sliding door opens up to two-thirds of the space.
The main benefits that have improved residents' daily lives are:
● Real accessibility: it allows for smoother, effortless and contactless passage, designed for everyone, regardless of their mobility.
● Comfort and safety: automatic opening with obstacle detection and reopening, ensuring safe passage in frequently and continuously used environments.
● Aesthetic improvement and integration with the environment: the glass design and customised profiles provide visual lightness, greater light entry and total architectural integration.
● Energy efficiency: its high opening and closing speed reduces air exchange time, helping to minimise energy losses and improve interior comfort.
With this project, Manusa continues to work towards automating residential building entrances to improve the daily experience of the people who live in them.
