Automatic doors in hospitals: safety and privacy at Hospiten Cancún

Hospiten Cancún, in the state of Quintana Roo (Mexico), is a reference hospital specialised in highly complex medical and surgical services. The hospital has specialised units such as the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and the Fetal Medicine Unit (FMU).

To ensure smooth operations and flow of access in such sensitive areas, Hospiten Cancún has entrusted Manusa with the installation of automatic doors tailored to its requirements.

In this project, in collaboration with distributor Puertas Automáticas de Veracruz, two distinct solutions were installed: centre-opening sliding doors for the main entrance and the Emergency service; and an automatic swing door at the side entrance of the same building.

Automatic doors for accessing the emergency service

For the main entrance to the Emergency service at Hospiten Cancún, a standard centre-opening automatic sliding door with fixed panels was selected.

This solution meets the essential requirements for a facility of this type:

1. Maximum speed: it opens quickly, facilitating the flow of people at a critical access point.

2. Guaranteed privacy: mirrored glass is utilised, allowing healthcare staff to have a clear view from the inside out, whilst maintaining opacity from the outside, thereby protecting patients’ privacy.

3. Enhanced security: it includes a key-operated cylinder as a manual opening system in the event of power failures.

A centre-opening automatic swing door has been installed at the side entrance, designed to ensure continuous access through secondary entrances. This option has been adapted to fit the architectural layout of the space and is particularly suitable for heavy use and a constant flow of people.

Aesthetics and functionality in general access points

At another entrance to the hospital, Manusa installed a centre-opening automatic sliding door with fixed panels and transparent frames. This solution allows natural light to flow in and creates a cleaner, more modern aesthetic, whilst maintaining the necessary durability in a high-traffic environment.
